Circle Percussion

Circle Percussion, founded in 1973 by Michael de Roo under the name ‘Circle Ensemble’, has been led by business and artistic director Erwin Oudshoorn since 2002. The ensemble was named after the first piece it performed, ‘Circles’ by Italian composer Luciano Berio. With this performance, the ensemble won a major prize at the international Gaudeamus Competition in 1974. Thus the ensemble determined its guidelines for the future: high-quality performances of contemporary music with a central role for percussion.

House Of Circles Taiko School

Taiko School House of Circles is the place in the Netherlands to experience the art of Japanese drumming — to play on the largest Japanese drums in Europe, to train under the guidance of members of the Dutch percussion group Circle Percussion, and to have a whole lot of fun making music.

IDÕ Drumworkouts

IDÕ MEANS ‘TO MOVE’ IN JAPANESE
IDÕ is an intensive total body workout inspired by the spectacular Japanese Taiko drumming and ancient Eastern training methods such as Do-In (Japanese yoga) and Shiatsu.

Unlike other training methods, in IDÕ you don’t move to music — instead, music is created from the movement. This is incredibly inspiring and motivating. And contrary to what you might think… you don’t need to be musical at all to join an IDÕ drum workout!

In IDÕ Drum Workouts, you get to know your own body. You train within your own capabilities and there’s room to grow and develop. And above all… IDÕ focuses on realistic results!
IDÕ is for everyone — from young to old, from big to small.
In the end, it’s you versus you

KIDÕ

Come drum Japanese-style with other young people!

Are you between 12 and 25 years old and want to develop your musical talents in an active way through the art of Taiko alongside other youths? Then join this youth group called 「KIDÕ 気童」 and rediscover yourself with fellow young, enthusiastic Taiko drummers.

Taiko Essence

The Natural Path of Wadaiko

“Every time I thought I understood something, my teachers showed me new possibilities, or indicated how things could or should be done differently. They revealed things to me that I didn’t even know existed. How can you, as a student, know what you want to learn, when you don’t know anything yet? This has been my greatest lesson and has provided me with my clearest insights.”

Erwin Oudshoorn was trained by the drummers of KODÕ. Since 1993, he has performed percussion concerts around the world with Circle Percussion. Over time, he started sharing his experience through his self-developed taiko workshops and training sessions.
