Dutch Taiko Heritage Foundation
Taiko is a profound, holistic experience uniting the physical, mental, and emotional. The Dutch Taiko Heritage Foundation preserves and expands its unique collection of Japanese drums, promoting cultural connection, education, and artistic expression. Taiko transcends music, fostering discipline, teamwork, and unity across diverse cultures. Through support and engagement, we ensure taiko’s vibrant heritage continues to inspire and thrive in contemporary society.
What we do
Taiko drumming is an art form that promotes expression, discipline, and collaboration. Over the past decades, our drums have been used for
- House of Circles - Dutch School of Taiko – education for beginners, advanced players, and professionals
- Workshops and training – for youth, schools, companies, and communities
- Theatre tours – with Circle Percussion, Europe’s first non-Japanese taiko group
- International collaborations – with KODO (Japan), Nederlands Dans Theater, and more
- Youth theatre and school projects – bringing taiko into education
- IDŌ Drumworkouts – health and fitness through rhythm and movement
- Artistic contributions – in film, dance, and orchestral productions (e.g. with Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra)
Why it matters
In a digital world where connection is often lost, taiko offers something unique: it’s physical, immediate, and universal. You don’t need to be a musician to be moved by the deep, collective pulse of the drum. Taiko invites expression, cooperation, and reflection.
We believe taiko contributes to cultural diversity and social cohesion. In a pluriform society, this art form has the power to unite people from different backgrounds — beyond words, through sound.
Looking ahead
Beyond artistic and educational purposes, we increasingly use our taiko in social and well-being projects, such as:
- Teambuilding and vitality programs
- Support for newcomers and integration initiatives
- Mental and physical health promotion through rhythm and movement
- The universal language of the drum is accessible and unifying. We aim to contribute to a society where culture, health, and personal growth go hand in hand.
Join us
We are looking for partners who, like us, believe in the power of music and connection. Supporting the Dutch Taiko Heritage Foundation means more than preserving heritage — it is an investment in inspiration, vitality, and social impact.
Together, we keep the taiko spirit alive — for today and for generations to come.
